Omaha Poker - Full house
If you hold high cards or a pair, the most secure flop
is one that gives you the highest possible full house.
For example, suppose you hold King of hearts, King of
spades, 8 of hearts and 7 of clubs. While straights
or a heart flushes are possible outs with your holding,
you should be praying for a K,7,7, on the flop.
But what about situations where the flop merely gives
you a credible draw for a full house? The following
are two situations where you may be well advised to
fold.
1. You hold trips on the flop but have no outs.
Suppose you hold K,K,8,7, and the flop shows K,Q,J.
Although this flop gives you high trips, it also gives
other players the high possibility of having a straight.
Your high trips will become a winner only if one if
the next two widow cards pairs one of the existing flop
cards, or if the last two flop cards are a running pair.
2. You hold King of spades, 10 of spades, 9 of clubs,
7 of clubs, and the flop reveals King of diamonds, 10
of Diamonds an 9 of hearts.
Having the three pairs looks promising, but both a
straight and a draw for a flush are realistic holdings
for your opponents. Two turn your measly two pair into
a full house requires you to hit one of only six cards
that will pair the board, or to get a pair of 7s. there
is less than a 25% probability of doing so in two draws,
and the implied pot odds are often not that good, especially
when you may need two draws to get there.
