Omaha Poker - Play on the flop
In Omaha Poker, starting strategy gets you to the flop
but not beyond. The only thing that matters then is
how your starting holding fits with the widow. As soon
as the flop is revealed you have seen the majority of
your final hand. This happens after only one round of
betting, and often a light one at that. Further information
and improvement is going to be much more expensive.
Before you pay to see the flop, you should think carefully
about the kinds of cards you need in relation to your
holding. If you aren’t going to be happy even
if you get them, don’t bother staying in.
If the best possible flop does not occur, you must
question whether you can still get the cards you need,
and whether the flop is likely to give someone else
an even better hand.
In Omaha the only sound strategy is to ask: what are
my chances now of getting a lock? All too often “pretty
good,” falls short of enough.
